We had our 20 week Anatomy Ultrasound today. Everything looks good and everything seems to be in the right place! This is also the ultrasound where we can find out if it is a boy or a girl. We had the sonographer put the result into an envelope since we had not yet decided if we were going to find out.
On November 6th we decided to go out to dinner at Roy's in La Jolla. We have fond memories of this restaurant since we had a great experience at the Roy's in Maui. We brought our envelope with us and decided to open it after our appetizer. We wanted to make sure that we found out at the same time so we placed the picture upside down and then turned it over together. I will never forget the feeling of seeing the word "girl" on the picture. It was an amazing experience.

Our little jumping bean
Today, we are about 13 weeks along. We're in the second trimester, so its a little ironic that we had our first trimester screen today. By combining bloodwork results with a high tech ultrasound and measurement of thickness of the nuchal fold on the baby's neck, the test results give statistics on possible abnormalities. Our stats were very good, with 1 out of 1,700 for down syndrome, and 1 out of 16,000 for trisomy 18.
The sonographer spent lots of time looking at things, taking measurements and best of all, taking lots of fancy pictures. Not sure what was going on, but the little one was jumping all around. It was the coolest thing to see. Looking forward to feeling the movements in the future.
In the meantime, here are a bunch of amazing photos.

Even the 3D alien one is beautiful, isn't it?

12 Week Ultraound
We had our 12 week ultrasound on Tuesday, September 7th and everything looks good. Our little peanut is 2.5 inches long and is growing away. Tara has not been feeling so hot the last couple of days do to a little stomach bug but she is hanging in there. We have grown so accustomed to going to the doctor every week that it has been torture having to wait a couple of weeks between appointments. We have another ultrasound next Tuesday and then we don't go back to the OB for 4 weeks! This ultrasound picture is not the greatest but it is better than nothing.

Heartbeat
We had our 7 week ultrasound today and we were amazed when we heard a heartbeat! We were not expecting to hear a heartbeat during this visit and when we heard it our hearts melted. It was really amazing. Check out the video if you want to hear for yourself. Everything is looking good so far!
Here is a picture too. You can see tiny little arms if you look close

Anniversary and 1st Ultrasound
It was our 7 year wedding anniversary last weekend up in Palos Verdes (a section of Los Angeles) at a resort called Terranea. It was the perfect place to soak in the news of the biggest change that will ever happen to us. Benny and Bear came with, and they loved every minute of it too. They made lots of canine friends and we even let them run the beautiful hills of a 9 hole golf course early in the morning before anyone teed off.
Then on Thursday, we were able to relax a bit more when our first ultrasound showed that everything is looking beautiful. The doc says we've got an overachiever since we could see a really strong heartbeat at such an early stage (6 weeks). You can't make out any human parts, but when the doc zoomed in, you could just see this blinking/pounding. It was so comforting.
Feeling a bit queasy. Nothing really sounds appetizing, except pizza & pasta. No veges, no salads, no thank you. Hoping this is not all in my head. Sour candies, ginger ale and other ginger foods should help.

Big News!
Yesterday morning, we went in for bloodwork to confirm if our IVF cycle was successful. We arrived at 7:50 am at Reproductive Partners in San Diego to have blood drawn and then the count down began. They told us that it would be four to five hours until the results would come in. And so we wait....
We decided to head over to La Jolla cove. The cove was where we spent four amazing years in a 400 square foot studio by the beach. It was where we got engaged and planned our wedding. It was where we lived when we got Benny and it was where we moved out of on our way to our first home. It seemed like the perfect place for our family to take our next step. After breakfast at Cody's we only had three to four hours left. Lounging in the park, reading magazines, and two to three hours left. One to two hours left, and then ring, ring, ring. Our nurse, Elina, delivered the best news. You're pregnant!
We're still in a bit of shock after the long process of IUI, switching doctors and lots of shots and medications. We are so thrilled and can't wait to share the journey.
